Course Title: Improving Men's Sexual Health and Reproductive Function with Chinese Medicine ABORM-approved CEUs: 12 Instructor: Bob Damone Course Description: Bob will explain the etiological and pathological role of damp-heat, blood stasis, and qì stagnation and the roles of each viscera and bowel (zang4-fu3) in the development of men’s reproductive, urological, and sexual diseases. He will emphasize the importance of developing a sound approach to diagnosis and of understanding the various possible patterns that can contribute to men’s diseases in unique and challenging ways. Throughout the discussion and through case study examples, the instructor will explore how disease causes and pathomechanisms affect diagnosis and treatment strategies for male infertility, male sexual dysfunction, prostatitis, and prostatic hyperplasia. This workshop will emphasize the importance of: 1) expanding our understanding of men’s physiology in Chinese medicine; 2) realizing that various disease causes and pathomechanisms— including repletions and vacuities—often contribute to men's diseases and; 3) developing sound approaches to diagnosis and treatment of men which reflect the recent contributions of modern Chinese specialists in men’s disease. 2009Course Name: Chinese Medicine: The Fertile Soul Understanding of Infertility ABORM-approved CEUs: 22 Instructor: Dr. Randine Lewis and Dr. Robin Tiberi Course Description: This course will provide a deep understanding of infertility according to Chinese medicine. We will deeply examine the zangfu patterns of imbalance presenting as infertility, and the associated Western medicine correlates. We will investigate the theory, the mechanisms of disease, and treatment according to both Chinese medicine and Western medicine in a case-based format when possible, paying special attention to herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, TCM nutrition, and breathing techniques. We will also engage in a detailed explanation of the specifics of Western reproductive procedural medicine, including labs, protocols, glossary, and integrative treatment strategies. Haung-Lao classic teachings as well as other great classical works inform much of the foundation of this workshop. Topics to be covered include: foundations of gynecology and reproductive medicine including anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and issues such as premature ovarian failure, PCOS, reproductive immunology, endometriosis, and implantation issues.
