Course Title: Men’s Health and Male Infertility

ABORM-approved CEUs: 5

Instructor: Peter Deadman

Course Description: Many practitioners of Chinese medicine are well acquainted with the intricacies of gynecology and there are many textbooks published and seminars offered on this important subject. By contrast, disorders that are specific to men are very frequently ignored and most practitioners are not well informed on their presentation and how Chinese medicine can help. It may be that men's reluctance to be open about personal problems (both emotional and physical) plays a part in this relative silence. This course will cover male infertility discussing western medicine integration, TCM theory, specific acupuncture points, research and the personal views of Dr. Peter Deadman, the acclaimed co-author of A Manual of Acupuncture and publisher of The Journal of Chinese Medicine.

Course Name: Chinese Medicine: The Fertile Soul Understanding of Infertility

ABORM-approved CEUs: 22

Instructor: Dr. Randine Lewis and Dr. Robin Tiberi

Course Description: This course will provide a deep understanding of infertility according to Chinese medicine. We will deeply examine the zangfu patterns of imbalance presenting as infertility, and the associated Western medicine correlates. We will investigate the theory, the mechanisms of disease, and treatment according to both Chinese medicine and Western medicine in a case-based format when possible, paying special attention to herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, TCM nutrition, and breathing techniques. We will also engage in a detailed explanation of the specifics of Western reproductive procedural medicine, including labs, protocols, glossary, and integrative treatment strategies. Haung-Lao classic teachings as well as other great classical works inform much of the foundation of this workshop. Topics to be covered include: foundations of gynecology and reproductive medicine including anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and issues such as premature ovarian failure, PCOS, reproductive immunology, endometriosis, and implantation issues. The Infertility Cure, first published in 2005, has helped tens of thousands of women and couples become pregnant by offering a straightforward mind-body approach that empowers the patient to take charge of their reproductive life, develop the healer within, and chart their own course on this most challenging fertility journey. Dr. Randine Lewis, author of The Infertility Cure and founder of The Fertile Soul, and Dr. Robin Tiberi, clinical director of The Fertile Soul share a deep resonance with each other and this medicine, and are a dynamic and synergistic force when they present the course content together. Come spend time with Randine and Robin and learn how to help your patients, and help your patients help themselves.

Course Name: East Meets West in Reproductive Medicine

ABORM-approved CEUs: 14

Instructor: Mike Berkley, L.Ac, FABORM

Course Description: This seminar provides an in-depth view both theoretically and clinically of the pathomechanisms and treatment options for the infertile couple from both Western medical and TCM perspectives. Acupuncture and herbal medicine approaches to treatment will be discussed. Demonstrations of how Western medical diseases and TCM patterns of disharmony are often more closely related than different. For example, endometriosis is an inflammatory disease according to Western medicine (TH1 predominant state)and, from the TCM perspective, endometriosis is a pattern of disharmony which includes 'heat-toxin' trapped in the interior. Asherman's syndrome presents as a result of scarring which disallows uterine functionality. From a TCM perspective, Asherman's syndrome can be seen as damage to qi, blood and vessels and collaterals due to stagnation and stasis.
